Department of Dairy Technology that was commenced to education with first students at 1990-1991, was founded by Prof. Dr. Rauf Cemil ADAM as a Chair of Dairy Technology at 1958.  Chair of  Dairy Technology  was particularly headed towards to postgraduate education under the Department of Agricultural Technology from the founded date to 1982. At 24.May.1990 Department of Dairy Technology was founded by the efforts of Prof. Dr. Sıddık GÖNÇ and it was carrying education and research responsibilities in the field of Dairy Technology as a second separate department in Turkey. In 1999, By the review of the Agriculture Faculty that Department of Dairy Technology was going on educaiton as inside Animal Products Programme. Then in 2003 Departement of Dairy Technology progressed education inside Agriculture Engineering and students choose the department in 3. year.

Today's dairy industries involve a complex array of disciplines that study livestock production from conception to consumption. The competitive job market requires versatile and well-educated individuals with a basic understanding of livestock production and product processing. Graduates of the Dairy Technology Department are well-qualified to meet the requirements of demanding employers in a variety of occupations in the dairy industry. Further, Dairy Technology Department, which support departmental teaching and research activities, provide our students contact with modern techniques in dairy production as well as the opportunity for practical work experience. These experiences give the students insight into many technical challenges associated with the dairy industries.

Physical, chemical and microbiological controls at all stages of production and preservation of milk, storage and marketing of dairy products, new technologies, also agricultural, technological and industrial occupations are the aim of education carrying at Department of Dairy Technology. 

Pathogen microorganisms in dairy industry, new techniques in dairy technology, centrifugal separators in dairy industry, technology of special dairy products, enzymes in dairy technology, lactic acid bacteria, goat milk cheeses, traditional dairy products, sensory evaluations of dairy products, biotechnology applications in dairy technology, moulds and yeasts in dairy technology, total quality concept in dairy ındustry and international applications, residues and contaminants in milk and dairy products, effects of milk and dairy products to health and nutrition and, probiotic dairy products are the main courses included within the postgraduate education.

Department of Dairy Technology at present has 13 members. The members are 6 professors, 2 assistant professors, 4 research assistant and 1 expert. In undergraduate program; students are offered courses and research opportunities in the following specialization areas; basic engineering, dairy science and technology and quality control.
